Summer Driver Education Program Description
Fillmore Central School, in conjunction with BOCES, conducts a Driver Education Program that fully meets the standards of the New York State Motor Vehicle Department and the New York State Education Department. Lecture teachers are state certified and instructors are licensed and approved by the Motor Vehicle Department. Students will receive 24 hours of classroom theory and 24 hours in the car, 6 hours behind the wheel and 18 hours of observation. Students successfully completing the program may obtain their unrestricted (senior) licenses at age 17.
Enrollment in the course does not guarantee that a student will pass a road test administered by the Motor Vehicle Department (DMV). Objectives of this program include the teaching of driver safety, rules of the road, and the proper knowledge, attitude and skills needed to drive. In-the-car instruction provides students with the basic skills needed to drive.
In addition to taking this program, the DMV recommends at least 50 total hours of driving practice. At the end of the program, students will receive a Completion Certificate (MV 285) and an Insurance Certificate. The Insurance Certificate, when sent to an insurance company, may provide the students with a 10%-15% discount on their annual premium for each year until age 25, (depending upon the insurance company).
