Fillmore Soaring Eagle Mock Caldecott Award
  • Beginning in December, Kindergarten students begin to look at the Caldecott Award and how books are chosen to win the award.  The Caldecott Award is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.  The Kindergarten students listen to several past Caldecott winners and discuss the illustrations.  Beginning in January, the students begin look at books published the previous year that may be up for the Caldecott Award; the Caldecott Award is announced in late January.  After reading several books and carefully looking at all the illustrations, the Kindergarteners pick their favorite book to win the Fillmore Soaring Eagle Mock Caldecott Award.
