2020 Hornell Area Wind Ensemble Young Artist Award Competition
Mrs. Chapman took these two young ladies to the 2020 Hornell Area Wind Ensemble Young Artist Award Competition today! Very proud of them both!
Olivia Chiu is a freshman at FCS and is a NYSSMA level VI tenor sax player as well as a NYSSMA level V flute, clarinet and alto sax player. In NINTH grade! For this competition we performed the Telemann Suite in A Minor on flute - ten minutes and three movements of wonderful music fell on the ears of a small audience today while she auditioned! Liv did great and we look forward to participating next year, perhaps on tenor sax!
For the second year in a row, FCS Senior Emily Willgens has been named the Hornell Area Wind Ensemble Young Artist Award Winner. Em is an exceptional Euphonium player who has an extensive and impressive resume in the music world. For this competition we chose to perform the Horovitz Euphonium Concerto, which has a transcription for band and Euphonium. We are hoping that HAWE will be able to procure the music for this piece and accompany Emily at the Young Artist Award Concert in April.
This marks three years running that FCS students have taken the top award at this competition!
