Water for South Sudan
Help us reach our goal! November 18, 2019-March 20, 2020
Our individual team members have combined digital forces to create this awesome fundraising team. Together we will raise more money for Water For South Sudan than we ever could alone! Our seventh grade ELA classes just finished reading A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, a novel about Lost Boy Salva Dut and his incredible survival against the odds growing up fleeing war-torn Sudan. Today, Salva devotes his life to bringing water to those in need, both Dinka and Nuer tribes, back in Sudan. Our middle school students wish to help Salva continue his legacy and work. We chose a goal is to raise $3,000 to sponsor a rehabilitation project for an older WFSS well to reach those in need.
According to the World Health Organization
- 785 million people lack even a basic drinking-water service, including 144 million people who are dependent on surface water.
- Globally, at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with feces.
- Contaminated water can transmit diseases such diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio.
- Contaminated drinking water is estimated to cause 485,000 diarrheal deaths each year.
